3. Dumb and Dumber
4. The Count of Monte Cristo

You should have made a top ten list of your favorite top ten lists.
The Count of Monte Cristo and Shallow Hal? REALLY?!?! High school yearbook top ten movie guy thinks that's ridiculous.
Oh, and in no particular order...
1. American History X
2. Godfather
3. The Departed
4. Braveheart
5. Schindler's List
6. Tombstone
7. Crash
8. Shawshank Redemption
9. Requiem For a Dream
10. Gladiator
The movies I think have been overlooked so far are: No Country for Old Men, the Big Lebowski, Memento, and Being John Malkovic.
I'm not going to make a capricious list but I agree with Nick that Shallow Hal and Monte Cristo seem out of place on Jimmy's list. With one exception, I have no qualms with Nick's choices. That doesn't surprise me because Nick and I have similar tastes. The one movie that I just don't get is Braveheart. I know some of you are going to flip your lids when you read this but I think Braveheart is predictable, formulaic, emotionally manipulative and overrated. You could say the same for Gladiator but I think Gladiator was better executed - Crowe was better than Gibson, that's really the only difference between the movies. Besides, if you're going to include Gladiator and Braveheart, you have to include The Patriot and Cinderlla Man. Same actors same movies, different settings.
By the way, for those of you still living on the Wasatch front, I will be in town for Jake's wedding next week. I would love to hang with everyone. Clint, if there's any sort of permission slip or "petition for Clint Time" that I need to submit to Erin before I can see you, let me know so I can get to work on it.
Great post by Ben. In fact, having read his post, I will commit social/blog suicide and retract my Gladiator and Braveheart entries. I definitely overlooked Memento and Being John Malkovich. The Big Lebowski is up there for me. I thought it was hilarious like most people. But everytime I watch Jeff Bridges I get a sort of late night sneaky uncle feeling. The dude creeps me out.
Ben, I'm sorry I can't be there this week. I was supposed to be there for MY brother's wedding, but I am unable to get out of my research duties. Good luck with the Clint-mission slip. You may also need to talk to Frank to see if he can work you into Jimmy's schedule.
